Klaviyo x Away — Commercial

When my team and I heard from our friends at agency SomeOddPilot that their client Klaviyo was doing a collab with Away, we were excited to bring their creative ideas to life. It was also a chance to work on another project with our friend, Director Jeremy Freedberg. The concept was to follow a business man who was going to take a trip with his son. The idea was to capture the moment he was served Away content via Klaviyo, see that content lead to his purchase of luggage for the trip, and then see the result of his purchase as he and his son pack their bags and head to the airport. 

It was a very fun concept, but the challenge was that we had to film the home interior and airport scenes all in one day! Annie had previously worked with studio TC Shadowlight in Lancaster, Pennsylvania which became the best choice for this project due to the fact they have an incredible in-house construction and design team. They were able to construct both the living room set and an airport terminal gate within their studios which meant we could jump from one set to the other with minimal delay. 

The studio’s proximity to New York City was another plus, as we were able to bring on our good friend and DP Jackson Jarvis. Between Jeremy and Jackson, they came up with lots of fun and unique shots which involved the camera being placed inside a cut out Away bag, mounted on the handle of a suitcase, and rigged to a phone. 

And what I find hilarious, is that If a viewer caught this commercial as it played during Monday Night Football, they would never have guessed that it was filmed on a sound stage in the middle of a Pennsylvania corn field.
